January 2008
Welcome in 2008

May I take this opportunity, in my first market report of 2008, to wish all Horizons readers and clients of Barry Allsuch & Co old and new a healthy, prosperous and peaceful year.

Regretfully 2007 came to an end rather turbulently and I feel we could have all been better off without TV’s, other than good old movies and sports channels. Contradicting and misleading
newspaper coverage other than that of Horizons of the economic situation around the world and the usual doom and gloom, gave very little respite for prospective (of course) buyers and sellers alike to make positive decisions.

I have a number of celebrity clients and I asked one if they thought it might be a good idea to set up a professional news channel only focusing on good news, of which there is always plenty. “No one would watch it mate”, came the reply from one client, who has been at the top end of show business for nearly fifty years. Does human nature really thrive on bad news, if so, stop reading now or roll over Beethoven.

With every negative there is a positive. 2007 did not end well for sellers, fact. However, most sellers are also buyers. Also let’s be fair Radlett and Elstree have had superb indefinite growth for many years and have up until recently defied some economic trends.

Does the Radlett and Elstree housing market have its own micro economy?

Yes and no, and that is where Barry Allsuch & Co come into the fore. I have seen cycles before, many have only seen cycles on Tour de France!!

I know which pockets of Radlett and Elstree might still maintain 2007 prices and which pockets will have to move with the flow.

It is also a fact that buyers were confused at the tail end of last year. My valuers at Barry Allsuch & Co under my watchful eye were not, but as I tell my teams at our regular sales meetings, respect sellers and buyers it’s their money and property.

Bricks and mortar have always been the greatest long term investment as well as a family home to live in ( and it is free from tax as a bonus).

Porters Park/Shenley Horizons edition successfully launched
To spread the good word and marketing strength of my agency and to ensure clients have the widest exposure, I have successfully launched a Porters Park/Shenley edition of Horizons, which has stimulated a number of established Horizon readers in this sought after area, who now get their own tailor made edition. When you consider I am primarily an estate agent, I am particularly proud of this achievement and thank the invisible army I have behind me. To put together an edition of Horizons is not an accident. It is plain hard work, but it is also my hobby. It keeps me in touch with the community I owe so much to and I would like to think vice versa.

I have also forged close links with the dynamic new management team at the areas leading Racquets, Health & Fitness Club, David Lloyd, (where I have been a family member since the club opened) it’s a two way deal and I will be sponsoring a badminton tournament at the club organised by Horizons contributor and racquets pro, Jago Nardelli. At the club Horizons will be available to read along with other Barry Allsuch & Co material, all of which will add to the exposure of client’s properties to a very captive audience.

Behind the scenes I have also kept the midnight oils burning with some hard work on my web site.

Dynamic redesigned, user-friendly website coming this month
I make no apologies for perhaps blowing my own trumpet, but feedback tells us that the Barry Allsuch & Co website continues to be the best. Professional, informative and user friendly.

Whilst Barry Allsuch & Co will use high tec, I will not become a slave to it. I will maintain our mission statement that our business is a people business. I know that both my sales and rentals team are all loyal hard workers and also great communicators. I have written testimonies from appreciative
clients to back me up.

Last month I featured my old mate King Canute who tried in vain to push back the sea.

In 2008 Barry Allsuch & Co will not ignore economic factors, and with 30 years experience will steer valued clients old and new as to the way forward.

We have some developments coming to the market shortly – The Spinney, Elstree is on course for a late spring launch, and others sensitively going through the planning stage.

Barry Allsuch & Co are actively looking for new land and investment opportunities, small, medium and large, in all areas surrounding our offices.

Whilst I will always personally keep an eye on the coal face, I am also a consultant for a number of leading developers who look to buy sites locally, and one day soon I will feature all the development sites in Radlett and Elstree I have proudly put together since 1977. The list is quite formidable.
